At the SANKALP Africa Summit in February 2020 in Nairobi, Siemens Stiftung brought stakeholders from international development cooperation together with social entrepreneurs for a new working session. The group’s aim was to expand and develop promising approaches for financing solutions that were first identified in last year’s roundtable discussion. In addition to confronting a lack of technological support and professional guidance as they get their businesses off the ground, young social entrepreneurs also face enormous challenges in finding the right sources of funding.
The latest working group and the resulting report were never intended to arrive at a single definitive solution. Instead, “How Digital Solutions May Enhance Social Financing” provides an overview of the latest expert findings on digital solutions that can help both sides reach financing agreements. Both social enterprises and ecosystem partners should be kept up to speed on current debates and the continuing efforts of Siemens Stiftung in this field. They should also be encouraged to pursue further opportunities for collaboration. The report also covers topics such as major financing gaps and potential answers to important questions about matchmaking and due diligence processes.
