The Deloitte Foundation’s Hidden Movers Award brought together experts from the foundation sector to debate the future of Education in the digital age in a panel discussion. Moderated by Tijen Onaran, Dr. Nina Smidt from Siemens Stiftung, Oliver Janoschka from Stifterverband & Hochschulforum Digitalization and Dorothea Schmidt from the Deloitte Foundation addressed the question on the skills young people need to deal with the challenges of digital transformation. The discussion ranged from the role of educational institutions to lifelong learning and active participation in social processes.
Dr. Nina Smidt emphasized how important it is to teach skills such as creativity, collaboration, communications, and critical thinking alongside specialist knowledge to actively shape society and the urgency to integrate new methodological approaches in the classroom, such as Design Thinking or interdisciplinary work in line with the foundation’s STEMplus approach. “The transformation of education must be driven by open cooperation between politics, science, business and civil society. Because only together can we shape the future of education. All it takes is the courage to try out new things, less talk and more action.”
Outstanding projects were honored with the Hidden Movers Award in a festive setting. From raising awareness of deepfakes and avoiding food waste to vocational training for people with learning difficulties – the five award winners tackle current social challenges in innovative ways.
Both the Hidden Movers award ceremony and the lively panel discussion inspire practical action to shape education for the next generation and pave the way for the transformation of the educational landscape.
