Five years of Forum Education Digitalization
On March 15th, Forum Bildung Digitalisierung held a “parliamentary evening” in Berlin to celebrate its fifth anniversary under the motto “How do we shape the digital educational turnaround for opportunity- and participation-oriented education in Germany?”
The nonprofit association advocates for systemic change and sustainable digital transformation in education, with the aim to bring together public discussions about digitization processes in education, and in this way identify conditions for success for the digital transformation in schools.
Together with guests from educational practice, science, and politics, the nine member foundations spoke about their efforts to promote digitization in schools since its foundation in 2017 and about the political dimension of the opportunity and participation-based education.
Jacob Chammon (Managing Director, Forum Bildung Digitalisierung), Prof. Dr. Katharina Scheiter (professor for digital education, Universität Potsdam) and Dr. Ekkehard Winter (Managing Director, Deutsche Telekom Stiftung) welcomed the members and opened the event with a reflection on the founding principle of the forum. This was followed by conversations with board members and the fourm members and discussions with policymakers. The evening was moderated by Muschda Sherzada.
Our Managing Director Nina Smidt participated in the panel “Attitude towards the culture of digitality”. “Over the past five years, the Forum Education Digitalization has succeeded in building up a strong network of stakeholders who are pulling together to make a sustainable digital transformation in the education sector a success. Already in the first few years, it was able to provide important impetus for systemic change. I am certain that it will continue to successfully expand this impact in the future and wish the entire team and all fellow campaigners every success in this important task,” she said.
Siemens Stiftung is a co-founder of Forum Education Digitalization together with Deutsche Telekom Stiftung, Bertelsmann Stiftung, Dieter Schwarz Stiftung, Montag Stiftung Jugend und Gesellschaft and Robert Bosch Stiftung. Dieter von Holtzbrinck Stiftung, the Vodafone Stiftung Deutschland and the Joachim Herz Stiftung are also members of the forum.
